La Feria

IMG_4244Yesterday we went to the feria in Puriscal. The feria is essentially a farmer’s market where local farmers come to sell their produce. This is a common occurrence in most towns in Costa Rica. In Puriscal the feria is held each Saturday from 8:00 in the morning ‘til noon. It is a great way to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at really good prices. We bought potatoes, papaya, mangos, corn, and watermelon. Everything was wonderful except for the corn. I don’t know if this was just a bad farmer or if all corn in CR is not very good. I guess we’ll have to try getting corn from someone else another time. I’ll keep you posted.IMG_4253

One interesting fruit (or nut) that we tried is called “mamon chino.” I assume this means it came from China originally. It is quite similar to something we used to get in Hawaii called Leche Nuts, except they have a very prickly exterior.
