Weather

200911141300.jpgThe temperature does not change much here in Puriscal. So far it has varied a total of 14 degrees Fahrenheit, from a low of 68 to a high of 82. Not too bad. It rains almost every day. The clouds usually start to roll in around 1:00 PM. It then rains from 1 to 4 hours and then it clears. In the morning there is usually a mist or fog, that burns off before too long. The sun sets between 5:30 and 6:00 and rises between 5:30 and 6:00 each day. It is very easy to feel like it is time for bed around 8:00 PM.

When there are no clouds you can see the Pacific ocean from where we are staying. But to drive there takes about 1 1/2 hours.

The temperature in CR is mostly dependent on the altitude. The higher the altitude, the lower the temperature. Therefore, down by the sea it is very hot, and up in the mountains it is quite cold (relatively speaking). It is humid everywhere, but it seems much more humid here in Puriscal than it does in the San Jose area. However, the altitude is nearly the same here as it is in San Jose, therefore the temperatures are very similar.

The humidity can be a problem. Food left out gets soggy really fast. We brought some gum with us, and within a few days it was very mushy. It also causes mold to grow. Dehumidifiers are used whenever a room is closed off for a time (as when people are away for a while). If you open the windows each day, it helps with the humidity. No one has wall to wall carpet. Nearly every home has ceramic tile throughout the entire home.
