We (Walter, Hannah, Elly) went skating with the youth on Friday night. I can honestly say that this was the worst roller skating experience of my life! And I include Montana in that assessment. Ask me about Montana some time. Anyway, we payed an extra 500 colones to get the “better” skates. I can only imagine how bad the regular skates would be. The skates I got were too big (they didn’t have smaller ones) and the buckle on the left skate was missing. On my third or fourth trip around the ring, some hot shot smashed into the back of me and out went my feet from under me! I got a sprained wrist and nasty scrape on my left arm. Several seconds after getting to my feet and resuming my trip around the floor, someone fell down in front of me, and down I went again. That was it for me, I turned my skates in and retired for the night.
Elisabeth did not have a much better time, since she twisted her ankle before we even entered the “rink.” Consequently, she decided to retire along with me.
The rink was actually a basketball court. The people who rent the skates are actually a traveling company that goes from town to town. They will be here in Puriscal until December. I don’t plan on visiting them again.
Despite all of this, the youth seemed to have a really good time. Hannah even did a little skating as can be seen in the photo above.
