Marcelina’s House – day two

IMG_9197Today we worked on getting the concrete floor for the house poured. Luckily one of the neighbor's is also a contractor who happens to own a cement mixer. He is also a friend of Wilfrido (Wilfrido seems to know just about everyone in Puriscal), and agreed to let us use the cement mixer. I can't even imagine how long it would have taken us to get the floor done without the mixer. Even with the mixer, it was a ton of work. You still have to shovel the rocks and sand into buckets, then lift the buckets up (I found the "clean and jerk" method to be the best) and into the mixer. After it is mixed up we pour it out into wheel barrows and then wheel them over and dump the barrows.

Today we only had me, Wilfrido, Harley, and Gerardo working. We started around 7:00 AM and were finished around 11:30 AM. Boy are my muscles aching! Wilfrido has another friend who can mill logs into the lumber needed for the walls and roof. He is going to be doing that tomorrow and I am going to take the day off. The logs are donated as is the person's time. All we have to do is pay for the diesel to run his machine.

  1. Hey, how's it been coming now?  Are you guys close to finished already?  How big is the house?
    Love,
    Bekah

  2. We haven't done anything further on the house. We were trying to get a guy to help us cut up the lumber for the walls, but that hasn't worked out. I think we are going to give up and buy the lumber, but we haven’t had a chance to do that yet.
